Suresh Raina Honoured by CAL

Lucknow: Team India player from UP, Suresh Raina was honoured by Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) on Wednesday evening at Lucknow for being named as captain of the Indian team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.

Speaking on the occasion, Raina said he felt very happy at the fact that he was being honoured in a city where he learnt the basics of the game.

Raina said that his coach Deepak Sharma, who taught him the finer points of the game when he was a trainee at Sports College Lucknow, had contributed immensely to wherever he has reached today. He said that he had learnt the qualities of team management from his coach.

Speaking on the occasion, his coach Deepak Sharma recalled how he used to make Raina the captain of the senior team in Sports College despite him being junior in age because of "captaincy material" and the extraordinary talent present in Raina.

Referring to a match of the Sheesh Mahal cricket tournament where Raina had bowled out VVS Laxman and Vijay Dhaiyya with a good vision, he said that now he would love to see Raina as a successful bowler of the Indian team as well.
