Birmingham: Pakistan captain Salman Butt won the toss and elected to bat against England in the second Test at Edgbaston on Friday.
England were unchanged from the team that beat Pakistan by the huge margin of 354 runs in the first Test of a four-match series at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
Pakistan made two changes. They dropped experienced wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, who missed several chances at Trent Bridge and was twice out for nought, and gave a Test debut to 24-year-old gloveman Zulqarnain Haider.
Pakistan had already released Danish Kaneria back to county side Essex after the leg-spinner's lone wicket in the first Test cost an expensive 171 runs.
Kaneria's place was taken by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal.
But there was no spot in the side for former captain and experienced batsman Mohammad Yousuf.
The 35-year-old had retired from international cricket following an indefinite ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he led the team on their winless tour of Australia concluded in January.
Yousuf was added to the squad just hours after Pakistan were bowled out for 80 - their lowest total against England - at Trent Bridge but did not arrive in England until Thursday and was deemed not to be match ready.
