Harare: Uncapped Ryan Butterworth has been rewarded for his impressive efforts at club level by being picked for Zimbabwe's tour of Bangladesh.
Butterworth, a 29-year-old batsman and part-time bowler, scored more than 1,000 runs and took more than 40 wickets for Whitehaven in the North Lancashire league last summer, and has been starring lately for Mashonaland Eagles in Zimbabwe first-class cricket.
Seam bowler Keegan Meth and experienced spinner Raymond Price were recalled on Friday.
Meth, 22, played the last of his five one-dayers for Zimbabwe against West Indies in 2006. Price missed the recent South Africa tour to be with his ailing father Tim, who died three weeks ago in Harare. A dedicated golf administrator in Zimbabwe, Tim was the older brother of three-time major winner Nick Price.
Pace bowlers Ed Rainsford and Ian Nicolson as well as batting coach Grant Flower have been dropped from the side.
Zimbabwe will play five one-day internationals in Bangladesh from Dec. 1-12 as part of its 2011 World Cup preparations.
Zimbabwe squad: Elton Chigumbura (captain), Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Hamilton Masakadza, Shingi Masakadza, Sean Williams, Chamu Chibhabha, Raymond Price, Ryan Butterworth, Craig Ervine, Prosper Utseya, Keith Dabengwa, Chris Mpofu, Keegan Meth.
