Younis Unlikely to Change His T20 Retirement Plan

Abu Dhabi: Pakistan skipper Younis Khan is unlikely to be persuaded to change his retirement plan for the Twenty 20 format of the game.

"He is a blue-eyed boy of the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who is also likely to be here for the final ODI against New Zealand on Monday, but will not persuade the captain to change his decision, though Younis is reported to have said that he may consider the decision on public demand and Afridi also offering to step down in his favour," a PCB source said.

"Shahid Afridi will lead in both the Twenty20 matches against New Zealand in Dubai Sports City on 12th and 13th November," The Nation quoted the source, as saying.

Younis Khan announced his retirement from Twenty20 cricket after leading his team to the ICC World Twenty20 title by beating Sri Lanka at Lord's.

Interestingly, Younis, though not a member of the Twenty 20 squad, is scheduled to travel with the team to Dubai.

"His wife (Amna) will join him in Dubai on November 10 and they (with son Owais) will leave for London on November 15," team manager Abdul Raqeeb said.

"Younis is to attend some functions in London and will not travel with the team to Auckland. Instead, a permission has been granted to join with the team in New Zealand," the manager added.
