West Indies v South Africa, 2nd Test, St Kitts, 4th day

Windies Grind On As 2nd Test Heads for Draw

St. Kitts: West Indies ground on remorselessly to 463 for four at lunch on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa in St Kitts on Monday.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul added just 12 runs in the morning session to reach 163 not out with all-rounder Dwayne Bravo on 44 after facing the bulk of spinner Paul Harris's negative bowling pitched outside the leg stump.

The session produced a mere 39 runs with just one boundary, an exquisite extra cover drive struck by Bravo off fast bowler Dale Steyn.

West Indies are replying to South Africa's total of 543 for six and the match was heading for a tame draw on a pitch which has offered almost no assistance to the bowlers.

The hosts were well-set at the end of the third day to press forward and possibly gain a lead of 100-150 to set up a sporting declaration. But the overnight pair of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo instead settled for negative and defensive tactics, the kind which would give Test-cricket bashers a field day.

South Africa won the first Test in the three-match series.
