Earlier, England forced West Indies to follow on on the fourth day of the second Test at Chester-Le-Street, after the visitors were bowled out for 310, with James Anderson taking 5-87.
England needed less than three overs of the evening session to end the West Indies first innings, with Stuart Broad removing Fidel Edwards, caught by England captain Andrew Strauss for 10, before Dinesh Ramdin was caught for 55 by Graeme Swann off Anderson.
England was forced to use Paul Collingwood as an emergency wicketkeeper, after Matt Prior injured a finger during the afternoon session.
Stuart Broad claimed the key wickets of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan as England reduced West Indies to 188 for 5 at lunch on the fourth day of the second Test on Sunday.
Sarwan made West Indies' first century of the series, including 14 fours, but he was caught off Stuart Broad for exactly 100 just five minutes before lunch. He lost sight of a bouncer and the ball reared up off his glove to Tim Bresnan in the slips.
England lead the two-Test series 1-0.
