Wadekar Criticises BCCI Over Asian Games No-show

Mumbai: Former Test skipper and chief selector Ajit Wadekar on Thursday slammed the Cricket Board for its decision not to send any team for the Asian Games in Guangzhou where the game will make its debut.

"How can you say you want to promote cricket in Asia and not send a team for the Asian Games even as other Test-playing countries of the region - Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh - are sending their teams," Wadekar wondered.

The BCCI has cited the Indian squad's prior international commitments for the decision to skip the quaderennial sports festival in which Twenty20 format of cricket has been picked as one of the 42 disciplines in the programme.

"When you can send an A team to Zimbabwe I don't see the logic behind not sending the same team to the Asian Games. I'm also surprised that the union sports minister M S Gill has supported the BCCI on the decision not to send the team," said the former Test captain and cricket manager of the Indian squad.

The Asian Games is scheduled to be held from November 12 to 27.
