Agartala: Hosts Tripura snatched a narrow one-wicket victory their first in the season against Rajasthan and bagged five points from the Ranji Trophy Plate Group A match on Friday.
The four-day match, which was tantalisingly poised at stumps yesterday with the hosts needing 16 runs to win with two wickets remaining, saw some anxious moments before Tripura achieved the target of 130 for nine wickets.
Having ensured a comfortable 77 run first innings lead, Tripura earlier bowled out the visitors for 206 in the second innings and were left with a 130-run target for victory.
Tripura is now heading the group with eight points in their kitty after two matches, while Rajasthan have earned five points from two outings.
In the third day morning it appeared to swing Rajasthan's way when off-spinner Madhur Khatri removed Rana Datta (9) after Tripura added only four runs to their overnight 114/8.
However, Debabrata Choudhury, who cracked four boundaries during his 142-minute stay and remained unbeaten on 30, guided the hosts to victory with last man Jayanta Debnath (6 n.o.) providing him support.
Khatri claimed four wickets for 43 runs for the visitors, while Kuldip Singh (2/16) also contributed with the ball but their efforts went in vain.
