Test Match Return at Kotla Against West Indies

New Delhi: The Ferozeshah Kotla is back on the Indian cricket map after spending the 2010 season being banned by the International Cricket Council for a year. On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allotted a India-England one-dayer to the venue, followed by an India-West Indies Test match too.

Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata will host India's three Tests against West Indies in November. Ahead of the Tests, the five ODIs against England will be held in Mumbai, Mohali, Hyderabad, Delhi and Kolkata. The Eden Gardens will also host the lone T20 match against England.

The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) suffered a major embarrassment after the India-Sri Lanka ODI was abandoned in December 2009 due to dangerous pitch conditions.

The venue was subsequently banned for a year but hosted the 2011 World Cup matches successfully in March followed by the Delhi Daredevils' home games during IPL 4 .

"We were due to host an ODI and Test according to the BCCI's rotation policy. We'll now begin preparing for the next season and a technical committee will be appointed to look after the preparation of the pitch at Kotla," DDCA general secretary Sneh Bansal told TOI on Saturday.

The BCCI did not announce the exact dates of both the series, but sources indicate that the ODI series against England will begin on October 13 in Kolkata, followed by Mumbai (October 16), Mohali (October 19), Hyderabad (October 22) and Delhi (October 26), with the T20 match in Kolkata on October 28.

This means that the Delhi crowd can look forward to some international action on Diwali day this year. Kotla will host the first Test against the West Indies from November 6 to 10, with the second Test in Kolkata (November 14 to 18) and Mumbai (November 22 to 26).

Cricket Association of Bengal president Jagmohan Dalmiya had earlier told this newspaper that the BCCI had promised Kolkata a T20, an ODI and a Test after the India-England World Cup match was shifted to Bangalore.

The Wankhede stadium in Mumbai was undergoing renovation for the past two years to prepare for the World Cup. The last Test witnessed at this venue was back in 2006 when India faced England.
