Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar's 72, Shikhar Dhawan's 56 and Kieron Pollard's 9-ball 20 took Mumbai Indians to a five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings.
Mumbai complete yet another victory in front of their home crowd, led by a brilliant performance from Sachin Tendulkar. They got off to a good start with Shikhar Dhawan taking the attack to the opposition. There was a slight hint of trouble when they lost the wickets of Tiwary and Sathish in quick succession but Tendulkar and Pollard shared a crucial 39-run stand off just 20 balls which put Mumbai in the driving seat. They eventually finished things off in the 19th over and reclaim their place at the top of the points table.
MS Dhoni said that they had a good score on the board but their bowlers lacked confidence. He hopes that they can start believing in themselves as the tournament progresses. A special mention for Suresh Raina and Mathew Hayden.
Mumbai skipper and Man of the Match Sachin Tendulkar said that this is a wonderful moment as it was a big win. Says he was trying to force the big shots but got back to just playing his game and it did the trick. Talks about how he hoped to play out the match but got out to a rash shot. A special mention for Pollard's cameo and the flick shot which cleared the fence. Wants the team to be on it's toes and expects the crowd to come out and back them all the way.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings' attempt to nip a budding losing streak received its first boost when their captain MS Dhoni was passed fit to play. The second lift came when Matthew Hayden power-hit Zaheer Khan out of the attack, giving the innings momentum.
The third was the most substantial: Suresh Raina batted with urgency and, with S Badrinath, ensured the advantage stayed with them during a century partnership that helped set Mumbai Indians a formidable target at the Brabourne Stadium
