Colombo: Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test against the West Indies at R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts handed a first test cap to 23-year-old medium fast bowler Suranga Lakmal, one of the three changes from the previous drawn test in Galle.
Pace bowlers Thilan Thushara, Dammika Prasad and spinner Suraj Randiv were dropped to make way for Lakmal, Nuwan Kulasekara and Rangana Herath.
The West Indies have dropped seamer Andre Russel and recalled spin bowler Sulieman Benn. Offspinner Shane Shillingford was retained despite being reported for a suspected illegal bowling action after the last match.
The start of the match was delayed by two hours due to a wet outfield.
