Sri Lanka Beat Pakistan By 129-runs, Series 1-1

Karachi: A clinical 129-run win by Sri Lanka. They struck early, removing Manzoor, Younis, and Misbah in quick succession, with just 17 on the board. Shoaib Malik and Salman Butt were involved in a fighting century-stand, but after Malik was caught-behind, Pakistan collapsed.

Put into bat, the islanders first amassed 290 runs for eight wicket with Tillakaratne Dilshan 76 (88b, 11x4) and Thilina Kandamby 59 (79b, 4x4) laying the foundation and Chamara Kapugedera providing the late flourish with his 39-ball cameo of 44.

Sri Lankan bowlers then complemented the effort of their batting colleagues by skittling out Pakistan for 161 in 34.5 overs for a series-equaling victory.

The last seven wickets fell for 36 runs - all to spinners. Malik may not necessarily have erred in opting to field first given the ease with which his team chased down 220 yesterday, but his fast bowlers Shoaib and Tanvir performed miserably.

Mahela broke the record for most catches taken in ODI's; he went Indian former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin's 156 when he caught Salman Butt at short cover. Murali is just two short of 500 ODI wickets; he'll hope to reach that mark in Lahore on the 24th.

Earlier, Sri Lanka got off to a strong start with Dilshan and Jayasuriya (19) belting Shoaib Akhtar for two fours each in a productive over which prompted Malik to promptly replace the pacer. Tilakratne Dilshan declared Man of the Match.

Brief Score: Sri Lanka 290 for 8 (Dilshan 76, Kandamby 59, Gul 4-58) beat Pakistan 161 (Butt 62, Malik 54, Muralitharan 3-19, Mendis 3-29) by 129 runs.
