Karachi: Pakistan's controversial fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar took part in a fitness test in Lahore on Friday but didn't bowl in the nets still making his selection for the upcoming One-day series in Sri Lanka doubtful.
The interim chief selector, Wasim Bari said that Shoaib had undergone physical training exercise before him at the national cricket academy but didn't bowl in the nets.
"I am leaving for Colombo tomorrow to consult with the team captain and coach over the selection of the one-day squad for the series in Sri Lanka," Bari said.
He also made it clear that Shoaib was not stopped from bowling by the board or selectors.
"Obviously we want to be 100 per cent sure of his match fitness before we consider him for national selection," Bari said.
The former Test captain who is working as Director human resources in the Pakistan board earlier in the day also held consultations with the designated chief selector, Iqbal Qasim and members of his committee in Lahore before Shoaib took part in the physical exercises.
The new selection committee is due to take charge from August 1 and sources said they had also discussed with Bari the 30-member preliminary squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa in September.
Shoaib has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons since last year and was in late May dropped from Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad because of his medical condition.
Former chief selector, Abdul Qadir has accused Pakistan coach, Intikhab Alam and manager, Yawar Saeed of engineering Shoaib's ouster from the team and said they had told him they didn't want the fast bowler in their team.
