Christchurch: Tearaway bowler Shane Bond is likely to end his 18-month exile from international cricket with New Zealand's tour of Sri Lanka in August after snapping ties with the 'rebel' Indian Cricket League.
New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive Justin Vaughan said he has received legal notification from Bond along with that of Daryl Tuffey's and Craig McMillan's that they have officially severed ties with the ICL.
"I can confirm NZC has received communication from the legal representatives of Daryl Tuffey, Craig McMillan and Shane Bond and documentation indicated those three players have terminated their contracts with the ICL," Vaughan was quoted as saying by 'Sunday Star-Times'.
"We will take further legal advice on the matter but it does appear, on face value, that those three players have cut their ties with the ICL. As long as the documentation is as stated, we move ahead and the players are eligible for selection with fitness and form and all the usual selection criteria taken into account," he added.
Vaughan said Bond was doing well in training and his return to the New Zealand side would strengthened the team.
"I do know that Shane has been training pretty hard recently and is fit, so I would imagine that as long as this documentation is in order I couldn't see why he wouldn't be considered for selection. We're very pleased that these guys are going to be available to be selected again. It's tremendous news."
Tuffey is also likely to be considered for the Sri Lanka tour but it's not expected that McMillan would make himself available.
National selector Glenn Turner said Tuffey and Bond would be considered for selection and the national panel "would look at them strongly".
There is even a chance the pace pair could pick up NZC contracts if their paper work arrives at NZC within the next fortnight. Normally, contracts would have been awarded by now but they have been pushed back as NZC changed the start of its financial year from June 1 to August 1.
