1st Test India v Australia, Bangalore Draw

Sachin & Laxman Save The Bangalore Test Match

Bangalore: India needed to negotiate a tricky 83 overs and avoid a collapse like Sydney last year. While they lost Sehwag and Dravid early, the experience of Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly saw them through.

Australia needed a repeat of their dramatic final session in Sydney but Laxman (42*) and Sachin (49) break Australian hopes in Bangalore Test, where India had given up their chase of 299 but looked set to bat out a draw. Sachin Tendulkar orchestrated a strong and solid middle-order response as Australia's lack of a truly dangerous frontline spinner started to hurt them as they sought a series-opening victory.

In morning, Shane Watson bowled out by Ishant Sharma in second over of the day, and fast cricket shows by debuted Cameron White. Australia's captain Ricky Ponting declared after five overs they played and set the target for India 299 in maximum 83 overs.

Australian fast bowler Lee and Clark get early break through, India lose opener Virender Sehwag (6) and Rahul Dravid (5) at just 24 runs on board. Bad light interrupted the game two times. Tendulkar was out for 49, before bad light halted play on day 5 of the first test between India and Australia.

Cameron White's first wicket in Test cricket was the prized one of Sachin Tendulkar. He is the first Australian and the seventh bowler overall to bay Tendulkar's wicket on Test debut.

Man of the Match Zaheer Khan's allround show went a logn way towards securing a draw for India in the first Test against Australian. With Kumble going wicketless, Zaheer rose to be occasion in the first innings with the ball, bagging five wickets for 91 runs. He then contributed handsomely with the bat in the company of Harbhajan Singh after a top-order stutter, ending as India's highest scorer with an attacking 57 not out. The MOM award was richly deserved.
