Ruhunu XI Opt to Bat Against T&T

Hyderabad: Ruhunu XI captain Mahela Udawatte won the toss and chose to bat against Trinidad and Tobago in the first qualifying match of the Champions League Twenty20 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

After setting the 2009 Champions League on fire on this very ground, T&T are keen to make up for their absence from the tournament last year. To play in the qualifiers may not be appealing for T&T, who were the finalists in 2009.

Ruhunu is banking heavily on its powerful batting department led by hard-hitting Sanath Jayasuriya to book its place in the main draw of the high-profile tournament.

Ruhunu's task is easier said than done as in Trinidad and Tobago they face a highly-motivated side which reached the semifinals in tournament in 2009.

With the likes of skipper Ganga, his brother Sherwin Ganga, Adrian Barath, Denesh Ramdin and Lendl Simmons up its armoury, the Trinidad and Tobago outfit has a good mixture of youth and experience.
