Guyana: Rain played spoilsport forcing players off the field after one over was bowled in the Zimbabwe run chase in their Twenty20 World Cup clash against Sri Lanka in Guyana on Monday.
Though it started drizzling during the innings break, the conditions were good enough for the Zimbabwe innings to get underway.
But after Ajantha Mendis bowled the first over, rain got heavier forcing the umpires to stop play.
Sri Lanka need to win this match to stay in the hunt for a Super 8 berth. If Zimbabwe lose against New Zealand, then it will go down to net run rates, but Sri Lanka want two points from this match.
For a Duckworth/Lewis result, Sri Lanka will have to bowl atleast 5 overs at Zimbabwe.
Earlier, Mahela Jayawardene's 63-ball century powered Sri Lanka to 173/7.
Jayawardene became the fourth batsman, after Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina, to hit a century in Twenty20 internationals.
Jayawardene, who got out on the next ball after getting his century, smashed 4 sixes and 10 fours in his swashbuckling knock.
Jayawardene kept scoring at a brisk rate even as Sri Lanka were losing wickets regularly at the other end.
Only Thissara Perera (23) and Chamara Kapugedera (13) got double figures for Sri Lanka.
Tillakaratne Dilshan continued his poor form as as he was dismissed in the third over after Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and opted to bat.
Ray Price and Greg Lamb took 2 wickets each for Zimbabwe.
