St Augustine: Only 11.1 overs were possible before rain prompted the abandonment of the final day of South Africa's two-day practice match against Trinidad & Tobago on Monday.
The home team had reached 18 for one, in response to the South Africans' first innings total of 347 for four declared, when the weather drove the players off the field at the University of the West Indies ground.
The Proteas were looking to fine tune their preparations for the first Test against West Indies, which opens on Thursday at Queen's Park Oval in the T&T capital of Port of Spain.
Dale Steyn managed to snared the scalp of West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons, one of several players hoping to use the match to impress the Windies selectors in the hope of a place in the side for either the three-Test series against South Africa, or future assignments.
Steyn struck in his third over, when Simmons was caught behind for 12 just before the rain arrived.
On Sunday, Alviro Petersen had scored 65 opening the batting, and was one of four batsmen that hit half-centuries in the South Africans' first innings.
Petersen struck nine fours and one six from 87 balls in 139 minutes, and added 72 for the first wicket with the Proteas' captain Graeme Smith, who made 41.
A.B. deVilliers supported with 53, and J.P. Duminy made 51 along with Hashim Amla, who made 44.
Mark Boucher also tuned-up with an undefeated 51.
South Africa also play Tests at Warner Park in the St. Kitts capital of Basseterre from June 18 to 22, and at Kensington Oval in the Barbados capital of Bridgetown from June 26 to 30.
