Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board is miffed with its general manager of umpiring Khizar Hayat for seeking the removal of an umpire from the ICC panel without discussing the matter with PCB chief Ejaz Butt.
Hayat had written to the International cricket council asking for the removal of umpire Nadeem Ghouri from the international panel of umpires.
According to sources in the Butt was livid when he learnt about the email sent by Hayat, suggesting Ehteshamuddin from Lahore as Ghouri's replacement.
"The Chairman was upset since he had only recently requested the ICC to give more assignments to Ghouri, who has been on the circuit for a while now," one source said.
"The matter came to light when the ICC sent back an email directly to the Director cricket operations Zakir Khan asking him why Pakistan wanted to replace Ghouri on the international panel of umpires," the source disclosed.
"Zakir brought the matter to the Chairman's notice since Ehteshamuddin is not a well known umpire and has only stood in some domestic matches."
Pakistan has been represented on the ICC panel of umpires by Aleem Dar, Asad Rauf, Ghouri and Zamir Haider.
