Karachi: Pakistan announced a 15-man squad for the three Tests against Sri Lanka to be played in the United Arab Emirates later this month.
Pakistan will also play five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka, which is expected to announce its team later.
The selectors had rested the three senior bowlers, Gul, Riaz and left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman for the recent tour to Zimbabwe but Mohsin said keeping in mind that Sri Lanka were stronger opposition, the trio had been included in the side to strengthen the bowling attack.
The selectors apparently omitted the talented Umar Akmal to retain former captain Shoaib Malik in the Test squad.
Malik had gone to Zimbabwe with the full squad in August but did not play in the lone Test. Mohsin said the team management and selectors were now keen to give Malik a chance to break into the Test squad.
The first Test at the neutral venue starts in Abu Dhabi from October 18. The other two Tests will be played in Dubai and Sharjah.
Test squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Mohammad Hafeez, Taufiq Umar, Imran Farhat, Younis Khan, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Malik, Adnan Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman, Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz, Aizaz Cheema, Junaid Khan.
