Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket South Africa have reached an agreement to play a Test and ODI series in October this year in the UAE.
A senior PCB official said the Memorandum of Understanding for the series has almost been finalised and just a few things needed to be sorted out.
"South Africa has agreed to play at Abu Dhabi and Dubai and we are also considering holding matches in Sharjah," the official said.
He said the series would include three Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 match.
The series is being played in the UAE as the South Africans have refused to tour Pakistan for the series this year due to the security situation in the country.
The official said the series was a major event for Pakistan this year as South Africa is a top team.
"The South African players and officials have no issues with playing in the UAE and they are happy with the facilities present in Dubai and Abu Dhabi but we also want to include Sharjah in the series," he said.
Sharjah has not hosted an international one-dayer since 2003 but is the only venue in the Emirates to have hosted Test matches.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai have become regular neutral venues for Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in March in Lahore as foreign teams have refused to tour the country because of security concerns.
The official also said he was confident that the series would turn out to be a good commercial venture for Pakistan which badly needed funds to boost its coffers.
