Dunedin: New Zealand's Champions League Twenty20 qualifiers Otago Volts has assembled in Dunedin to prepare for the event's inaugural edition to be held in India from October 8-23.
A 20-member squad sans top cricketers like Brendon McCullum, Ian Butler, Neil Broom and Nathan McCullum began its preparations with a fielding session at the University Oval on Tuesday.
The squad has a busy schedule with skills training at the Indoor High Performance Centre at the Edgar Centre and on artificial surfaces at the University Oval.
The team's trainer Chris Donaldson will also take the team through a strength and conditioning programme.
Practice matches start with internal fixtures amongst the squad in Oamaru on September 14 and 15 and continue with club cricket pre-season Twenty20 games in Dunedin on September 19.
The squad will leave Dunedin for Brisbane on September 25 where they will play warm-up games against the Queensland Academy and South Australia as well as having use of the Allan Border fields and facilities for a week of training.
The squad will leave for India on October 2 where it will play two warm-up games in Hyderabad before opening its campaign on October 10.
"This is the start of what will be one of the most exciting eight weeks in the history of Otago Cricket," Otago Cricket CEO Ross Dykes said.
