Adelaide: England coach Andy Flower is set to field his first-choice eleven again for Thursday's three-day tour game against South Australia in the buildup to this month's Ashes opener.
Flower said he made no apologies for leaving out fringe Test contenders as he looks to give his preferred lineup experience of Australian conditions ahead of the first Test at Brisbane's Gabba ground, starting on November 25.
"One of our priorities is not to give everyone a go," Flower told reporters on Wednesday.
"It's not about trying to be fair to everyone. We are trying to prepare our Test side for Brisbane, that is the priority.
"When you've got a squad of 16 or 17, obviously everyone wants to play, everyone's very proud to represent their country, whether in preparation games or internationals.
"But our priority is to ensure that our Test XI is as ready as possible for the first Test."
England are seeking to defend the urn they claimed with a 2-1 series victory at home in 2009 and will be keen to wipe out memories of their last Ashes tour to Australia, four years ago, when Ricky Ponting's men humiliated them with a 5-0 Test whitewash.
Flower refused to discuss specific selections, but he left no doubt that the squad's fringe players would miss out again against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
This means opener Alastair Cook will be given more batting time to find form after scores of just five and nine in last week's tour opener against Western Australia in Perth.
"It's only two innings into the tour, we have got two more preparation games for him to spend some time in the middle and I expect him to do so," Flower said.
"He's a quality batsman with a really good Test record and he's a strong bloke."
Australian interest in the Adelaide game centres on emerging South Australian batsman Callum Ferguson, with the home side due to announce their squad for the first Test on Monday.
"I'm sure the Australian selectors know what Ferg can do whether he gets runs tomorrow or not, they have seen how much class he has," SA captain Michael Klinger said.
"We know he's going to be playing for Australia pretty soon because he's full of class."
