Dambulla: New Zealandskipper Ross Taylor won the toss and opted to bat against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the tri-series at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka on Friday.
After thumping India by 200 runs in the tri-series opener on Tuesday, Ross Taylor's side is flaunting a rough edge, an intensity which even opposition team's have taken note of.
With Jacob Oram nursing a hamstring niggle and BJ Watling not fully recovered from an upset stomach, the pressure on Taylor and Styris to fire again for New Zealand will be immense.
Both the teams have some exciting pacemen in their ranks and if the conditions favour them again, it promises to be a cracking contest between ball and bat.
Kumar Sangakkara's men have the most formidable lineup of the three teams, a lethal pace attack in Malinga and Kulasekara, a game-changing allrounder in Angelo Mathews and one of the deepest ODI batting lineups going around.
Add spinners Suraj Randiv and Ajantha Mendis in the mix and the Kiwis will have their task cut out.
One more win here and the Kiwis will virtually be in the final. A loss, though, could send them hurtling to the No. 5 rank in the ODI rankings from their present No. 2 spot.
