NZ v Bangladesh, Only Test, 5th day, Hamilton

New Zealand Beat Bangladesh by 121-runs in Hamilton Test

Hamilton: Shakib Al Hasan's blazing century went in vain as New Zealand closed out the Test 121 runs shortly after lunch on the fifth afternoon. A tense session awaited with Shakib playing the lone hand but a three-wicket burst by Tim Southee ensured the home won a match they were never expected to lose.

At one stage it seemed as Bangladesh might get close to the total as Shakib and Mahmudullah tore the Kiwi bowling attack. But the Kiwis came back strongly picking the wicket of the dangerous Mahmudullah.

Shakib got to his maiden Test ton but it was not enough as Bangladesh went down to the Kiwis. Bangladesh batted well in the first innings scoring 408 runs in reply to New Zealand's 553/7d with McCullum and Guptill being the star performers. They shared a record partnership of 339 runs.

In the second innings, New Zealand made 258 for 5 dec setting the visitors a target of 404 runs. Bangladesh were bowled out for 282 runs chasing 404. Bangladesh lost the match but there were some notable performances from the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, and Rubel Hossain.

Martin Guptill was the Man of the Match for his innings of 189 in the first innings and 56 in the second innings.

New Zeland now play hosts to Australia while England will travel to Bangladesh.
