Nottingham: Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim was carried off on a stretcher after being hit on the face in the first one-day international against England at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
Mushfiqur, who was not wearing a helmet, was struck when a ball from spinner Faisal Hossain turned and bounced sharply to hit him near the cheek bone.
The wicketkeeper went down immediately and needed several minutes of on-field treatment, with the England doctor among the medical staff who came out into the middle.
England, chasing 251 to win, were 143 for two off 26 overs when Mushfiqur was hit.
Eventually, the keeper was carried off on a stretcher with top-order batsman Junaid Siddique, who did opt to wear a helmet, taking over behind the stumps.
This was the first of a three-match series.
