Modi Will be Highlight of BCCI Annual Meeting

Mumbai: If you thought cricket administration in India is fast becoming less interested in the sport itself than the politics of it, Thursday's Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) is the place to prove you right.

Gujarat Cricket Association's (GCA) newly-elected president and the state's BJP chief minister Narendra Modi will make his presence felt and in fact sit across the table with NCP chief and Union minister Sharad Pawar.

There's still a cloud of uncertainty over whether a Congress-backed representative will be arriving from the controversy-ridden Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) or someone from the working committee with BJP's backing will attend the meeting.

All of this at a time when Maharashtra is preparing for Assembly elections. "We're hoping they don't talk seat allocations," says a working committee member in jest.

In all seriousness though, there won't be any major cricketing decision taken and neither will there be any elections for the executive committee, which itself should make this AGM a dull affair. The meeting, nevertheless, will elect members for various sub-committees including finance, tournament, fixtures and technical.
