West Indies v Bangladesh, 1st Test, Kingstown, 3rd day

Match in Balance Despite West Indies Lead

Kingstown: Bangladesh fought back on day three of the first Test against the West Indies, conceding a first-innings lead of 69.

The hosts resumed on 17 for one in reply to Bangladesh's 238 and would have been hopeful of building a big lead in St Vincent.

However, despite 94 from opener Omar Phillips and 53 from Dave Bernard, they were dismissed for 307 during the evening session.

Rubel Hossain and Mahmudullah both took three wickets for the tourists as the weakened West Indian line-up - many of their star names are not playing due to a dispute with the Board - showed its limitations.

Bangladesh faced a tricky spell in bat before stumps but managed to avoid the loss of any wicket as they reached 26 in the second innings. That meant they ended the day 43 in arrears.

Bernard and Sammy spiced up the afternoon with their positive batting, it was Phillips who set the platform with a patient 94 in the morning. There were occasional losses in concentration - first when he reached 50 and then, as he neared the debut century - but for the majority of the time, he was quite solid.

Brief Score: Bangladesh 238 and 26 for 0 (Tamim 11*, Keyes 14*) trail West Indies 307 (Phillips 94, Bernard 53, Sammy 48) by 43 runs.
