London: Durham seamer Mark Davies has been added to the England Test squad in South Africa as cover for seam bowlers James Anderson and Ryan Sidebottom.
The 29-year-old took 19 wickets at an average of 29 in the 2009 Championship.
Anderson, who took eight wickets in three games in the one-day series, has stayed behind in Durban to have another injection on his right knee.
He is sore from a mystery injury that has not been diagnosed despite scans, while Sidebottom has a side problem.
Davies, who is in South Africa with the England Performance Programme, took six wickets in last week's victory over Gauteng, including first-innings figures of 4-56.
He might even have taken five in the innings but his boots went missing having been left on the outfield overnight, causing a delay in his return to the field.
Durham now have four players in the squad, with all-rounder Paul Collingwood and bowlers Graham Onions and Liam Plunkett.
