Edinburgh: World Cup finalists Sri Lanka brought Scotland back down to earth with a crushing 183 run one-day international win on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka, in the final match of their tour of Britain, made 284 for seven featuring fifties from openers Mahela Jayawardene and Dimuth Karunaratne.
Scotland were then dismissed for their second lowest ODI total of 101, with Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga taking five for 30 in an innings where Majid Haq top-scored with 34 and no other batsman made more than 17.
Sri Lanka's victory came just a day after Scotland posted their record ODI total of 323 for five to upset World Cup giant-killers Ireland by five wickets
Buoyed by their victory over Ireland, the Scots restricted Sri Lanka to 284 for 7 at the break. That target was 36 less than they successfully chased against the Irish, but it was never in sight as Scotland collapsed to 101 all out in 32.4 overs.
The Grange pitch traditionally becomes easier to bat on in the afternoon, and Scotland again decided to insert the opposition after winning their second toss of this tri-series. It seemed a quixotic call as the Sri Lankan openers rapidly settled into their easy run-scoring ways.
