Laxman, Tendulkar Secure Easy Victory at Kotla

New Delhi: VVS Laxman (58*) and Tendulkar (76) steered India to a comfortable five-wicket victory over West Indies on the fourth day of the first Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

India created history at Kotla by defeating West Indies for the first time on the ground. India registered their 16th Test win under MS Dhoni's captainship in 32 matches.

The drama continued till the end as Yuvraj Singh was clean bowled by Darren Sammy with one more run required to register the victory.

VVS Laxman completed his 55th fifty and hit seven boundaries in his unbeaten 101-ball 57 innings.

India went in for lunch needing 22 more runs to beat West Indies.

VVS Laxman and Yuvraj Singh are on the crease at lunch and shouldn't take long in the post-lunch session to wrap up the match.

Devendra Bishoo trapped Tendulkar lbw on 76 to extend the wait for master's 100th international ton as India eye victory.

Tendulkar looked good for the monumental landmark as he hit boundaries at will and accumulated runs rapidly on Day 4 before young Bishoo got better of him. The master hit 10 boundaries in his 148-ball 76 knock.

Tendulkar also added quick 71-run partnership with VVS Laxman to lead the Indian run chase. The duo compiled runs rapidly as India went pass 200-run mark in the morning session of the fourth day quickly.

Tendulkar hit five boundaries to complete his 62nd Test fifty off 111 balls after India lost Rahul Dravid (31) early on Day 4.

Windies pacer Fidel Edwards gave the visitors a lifeline in the match when he clean bowled Dravid in the fourth over of the day. Dravid could only add a run to his overnight score.

India resumed the run chase on the fourth day requiring 124 more runs to win the Test and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against the Windies.

Chasing 276-run target, India had their nose ahead after they safely negotiated the West Indies bowlers on a tricky pitch as they finished the third day comfortably at 152/2 on Tuesday.
