New Delhi: The historic Ferozeshah Kotla has had to endure a lot of ridicule and even punishment over the last year or so, such has been the dubious nature of its pitch.
It even earned a ban from the ICC last December after a failed ODI. However, on Wednesday, some ghosts were put to rest during the IPL tie between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians.
The officials and ground staff associated with Kotla were a tense lot before the game as nobody was quite sure how the pitch would behave. Thankfully, the track mostly played true, letting the batters go berserk with their strokes as a flurry of fours and sixes lit up the sky.
Daljit Singh, former chief BCCI pitch curator who was sacked by the board in the wake of the ODI fiasco, was a happy man. "I am not at all surprised with the way the pitch behaved today. Due to lack of time, the pitch preparation was hampered to some extent earlier and we didn't have enough time for enough trial matches. But the amount of hard work that has gone into the pitch is not a joke."
Daljit added: "After this year's monsoon, the pitch is going to get even better and before the 2011 World Cup, it's going to be one of the best in the country."
