Visakhapatnam: Fine century by Virat Kohli and half centuries by Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina powered India to a convincing five-wicket victory over Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series at Visakhapatnam.
Virat Kohli completed his third ODI century in 111 balls that included nine fours.
However, Kohli couldn't finish for India as he gave an easy catch at long on to Hopes off John Hastings' delivery. Kohli's 118-ball 121 included 11 fours and a six.
Raina hold the fort for India to finish off the proceedings. Raina remained unbeaten on 71 off 47 balls
Kohli changed his gears soon after his century as he hammered Clint Mckay for two successive fours followed by a huge six in the 43rd over.
Kohli and Suresh Raina kept the run-rate going after Yuvraj's dismissal as they stitched 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Hastings mounted the pressure on India as he castled Indian skipper MS Dhoni in the very first ball he faced.
Chasing 289, India got off to a dismal start after speedster Clint Mackay gave Australia a perfect opening by getting rid of Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay early.
India lost both Dhawan and Murali inside 50 runs. Mackay first cleaned up debutant Shikhar Dhawan for nought in the very first over of the innings followed by scalping Murali Vijay (15) behind the wicket.
Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh added crucial 137 runs for the third wicket as they scored briskly to keep India in hunt after a stuttering start.
Mckay came back strongly to pick his third wicket as he got rid of southpaw Yuvraj and broke his dangerously looking partnership with Kohli.
Earlier, Michael Clarke cracked a solid century as Australia recovered from a poor start to post 289/3 against India.
Australia were struggling at 16/2 after being put in to bat in the day-night match, before skipper Clarke (111 not out) and Mike Hussey (69) bolstered the innings with a 114-run stand for the third wicket.
The Australian captain completed his fifth one-day hundred in the 46th over, hitting paceman Vinay Kumar for two successive fours and then turning the next ball to mid-wicket for a single.
Hussey was trapped leg-before by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the 37th over after hitting seven fours in his 78-ball knock, but not before setting the stage for a closing-overs onslaught.
Australia plundered 84 runs in the last five overs as Cameron White (89 not out) raced to his half-century with a straight six off seamer Praveen Kumar, the ball hitting a spectator who needed medical assistance.
White, who added 129 runs in 13 overs and three balls for the unfinished fourth wicket with his captain, hammered six sixes and as many fours in a 49-ball blitz, his 11th half-century in one-dayers.
Left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra did the early damage when he dismissed openers Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine in his opening four overs.
India had to work hard for their next success as Clarke and Hussey paced their innings remarkably well, taking no risks and relying more on singles and twos to keep the scoreboard moving.
Clarke cracked one six and seven fours in his 138-ball knock.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc and all-rounder John Hastings made one-day debuts for Australia. India also named two newcomers in their playing XI -- batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Saurabh Tiwary.
Both teams rested top players for the series to test their bench strength ahead of next year's World Cup.
