Kandamby Drop, Dilshan Retained Captain Against Australia

Colombo: Tillakaratne Dilshan was retained captain of Sri Lankan cricket team for its home series against Australia next month on Thursday.

Dilshan, who was Sri Lanka captain in the Test and ODI series in England from May 26 to July 9, will lead in the three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 games against Australia, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

The first game is a T20 clash on August 6. The squad for the Test matches is yet to be announced, but on Wednesday SLC issued the names of 20 players who will be in the squad for the ODIs and the T20 Internationals.

Dilshan was handed the captaincy for the England tour in the wake of Kumar Sangakarra's decision to resign after the World Cup.

Sri Lanka have dropped limited overs vice-captain Thilina Kandamby.

Kandamby paid the price for his below-par performances during Sri Lanka's tour to England when the 20-man squad was announced on Thursday, but Tillakaratne Dilshan was retained as captain.

Dilhara Fernando, who picked up an injury in the third Test against England and subsequently missed the ODI series, was also left out of the squad for five one-day internationals and two Twenty20s starting August 6.

Leg-spinner Malinga Bandara was recalled after an 18-month absence while batsman Chamara Kapugedera is also back after being dropped against England.
