Manchester: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will replace injured Gautam Gambhir in the five-match ODI series against England starting from September 3.
According to the team management sources, the initial plan was not to seek any replacement for Gambhir. However, the selectors and the team management changed their minds after considering the current situation - growing list of injured player.
Also in Gambhir's place, Suresh Raina will be the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team.
Jadeja, who was not a part of the World Cup team earlier this year, will be playing international cricket after a gap of nearly a year, will be joining the team at the earliest. He represented India last year against New Zealand during the home series in December and played his IPL season for Kochi Tuskers this year.
Gambhir, who is suffering from concussion, is not the only player in the injury list. In the process of the England series, the India team has been plagued by injuries of some of the other top players like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan.
