India vs South Africa T20 Game Five Statistical Highlights

St. Lucia: South Africa won the toss and inserted the opposition in this game providing the 33rd occasion of a team doing so in ICC T20 WC. It was the fourth occasion that South Africa inserted the opposition. South Africa became the third team after India and Pakistan to insert the opposition on four occasions in ICC T20 WC.

South Africa lost this game by 14 runs after inserting the opposition providing the 16th occasion of a team losing a game after inserting the opposition in ICC T20 WC. It was South Africa's first loss in ICC T20 WC after it had inserted the opposition.

Suresh Raina scored 101 in this game to become the second centurion in ICC T20 WC. West Indies skipper Chris Gayle of West Indies was the first batsman to score a hundred. He had scored 117 against South Africa at Johannesburg on Sept 11, 2007 in the first game of ICC T20 WC.

It is interesting to note that both the hundreds in ICC T20 WC have come against the same opposition - South Africa. Gayle's 117 was in a losing cause, while Suresh Raina's 101 was in a winning cause for West Indies and India respectively.

Raina became the third batsman in T20 International to score a hundred. Other two are - Gayle 117 vs South Africa at Jo'burg on Sept 09, 2007 and Kiwis wicketkeeper Bradon McCullum 116 (not out) against Australia at Christchurch on Feb 28, 2010.

Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh added 88 runs for the third wicket providing the 94th occasion of a fifty plus runs partnership in ICC T20 WC. This stand also provides the 22nd occasion of a third wicket partnership in ICC T20 WC.

This stand provides the 13th occasion of a fifty plus run partnership posted by Indian batsmen for various wickets in ICC T20 WC. It is the fourth occasion of a fifty plus runs stand posted by Indian batsmen for the third wicket in ICC T20 WC. The other three occasions are - 84 runs between Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh vs Australia, 63 runs between Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh against Pakistan, 55 runs between Murali Vijay and Yuvraj Singh vs Afghanistan at same venue on Saturday.

It is interesting to note that in all these four stands, Yuvraj Singh has been one of the partners.

88 runs stand between Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh for the third wicket in this game represent the highest stand for the third wicket by Indian batsmen in ICC T20 WC. The previous best was 84 runs between Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh vs Australia at Durban.

88 runs stand between Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh for the third wicket in this game represent the best partnership by Indian batsmen against South Africa in ICC T20 WC. The first stand was 85 runs for the fifth wicket between MS Dhoni and RG Sharma at Durban on Sept 20, 2007.

Murali Vijay's zero in this game represents the 14th occasion of a batsman scoring zero against South Africa in ICC T20 WC. He became the ninth batsman to collect the first ball duck against South Africa in ICC T20 WC and 93rd occasion of a batsman scoring zero in ICC T20 WC.

AB deVilliers pouched a catch in this game to take his aggregate of catches to 12 in ICC T20 WC.

AB's team mate Mark Boucher took his catches aggregate to 11 in ICC T20 WC when he caught Murali Vijay of RK Kleinveldt for zero and with it the record of most catches in ICC T20 WC. He wrested the record from D Ramdin of West Indies who has a tally of 10 catches.

Jacque JH Kallis scored 73 in this game which was his third fifty in ICC T20 WC.

Kallis with his three fifties became the sixth batsman to register three fifties in ICC T20 WC. Others are - Gayle, Mahela Jayawardene, Santath Jayasuriya and Tilakratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka and Yuvraj Singh of India.

JH Kallis's three fifties as an opening batsman places him in the elite company of the following opening batsmen who have scored four or more fifties in ICC T20 WC - Gambhir of India (04), Hayden of Australia (04).

JH Kallis and GC Smith added 97 runs for the second wicket in this game providing the 95th occasion of a fifty plus runs partnership in ICC T20 WC. This stand is the record stand for the second wicket in ICC T20 WC. The previous best was 95 runs stand between Chanderpaul and Smith in the game between West Indies and Bangaldesh at Jo'ubrg on September 13, 2007.
