Townsville: Needing a win against Papua New Guinea to stay alive in the tournament, India were bowled out for 204 in the 46th over at Endeavour Park in Townsville.
India was still comfortable winners though as Papua New Guinea were skittled for just 97 in response.
India made a poor start to the day with skipper Unmukt Chand (4) caught at first slip off the bowling of Chad Soper (5-32) in just the second over of the day.
Baba Aparajith (14) was then run out, while Hanuma Vihari (six) also failed with the bat, with opener Prashant Chopra (58) the only top-order batsman to fire.
India slumped to 98 for five when Chopra and Akshdeep Nath (one) fell in quick succession but an 82-run partnership between Vijay Zol (72) and Smit Patel (30) rescued the innings as India finished with a decent enough score.
Papua New Guinea started poorly, losing Lega Siaka (one) in the fourth over but Christopher Kent (27) and Dogodo Bau (14) had India nervous as they carried the score to 42-1 at one stage.
The wicket of Kent triggered a collapse though as medium-pacer Ravikant Singh (5-21) and off-spinner Aparajith (2-16) ripped through the lower order.

England v Nepal, ICC U-19 World Cup, Townsville
Also in Townsville, England thumped Nepal by 126 runs, setting the platform for their win with a score of 274-7 from their 50 overs, largely thanks to Ben Foakes (92) and Ben Duckett (55).
Nepal were reduced to 25-5 in response and were never in the hunt to win, with England paceman Shozair Ali (4-37) and Reece Topley (3-10) dominating.
Bangladesh v Namibia, ICC U-19 World Cup, Brisbane
Thursday's other match saw Bangladesh defeat Namibia by seven wickets in Brisbane.
Namibia was bowled out for 151 and Liton Das (70 not out) helped his side to a win achieved with 13 overs to spare.
