Ahmedabad: South Africa have managed to avoid a clean sweep as they beat India by 90 runs in the final ODI of the series. Chasing a massive 366, India have been bowled out for 275 in 44.3 overs. Despite the loss, India win the 3-ODI series 2-1.
Despite the loss, India win the 3-ODI series 2-1. It was a fantastic batting track at Motera and South Africa did not disappoint batting first as they piled up 365 for 2 in their 50 overs.
In reply, India lost their openers early and though a 95-run stand came in from Virat Kohli (57) and Rohit Sharma (48), it wasn't at par with the required run rate as their inexperienced came into play a bit.
Suresh Raina (49) came up with yet another fighting performance while Jadeja (39) and debutant Mithun (24) chipped in a little before the home side were eventually rolled over for 275.
South Africa were quite clinical in their bowling performance. Their strike bowler Steyn (3/37) and Tsotsobe (3/58) bowled really well along with spinners van der Merwe (2/47) and Botha (2/80). The Proteas will be quite relieved to leave India with a win, despite losing the series.
Earlier, The pitch was expected to produce a big total and South Africa will be mighty pleased to have posted a massive 365/2 in their 50 overs after choose to bat first.
The start was brilliant for the Proteas with Bosman (68) and Amla (87) adding 113 for the 1st wicket in 15.4 overs.
Kallis (104*) coming in next, scored his first century as skipper playing a superb knock keeping one end tight while de Villiers (102*) played an awesome cameo, going on to score the 7th fastest ton in ODIs. The pair remained unbeaten adding 173 runs for the 3rd wicket in just 17.1 overs.
The Indian bowling was quite inexperienced as they gave away 122 runs in the last 10 overs of which 78 runs came in the last five overs. Sreesanth, despite being the most experienced, gave away 83 runs off his 9 overs with out striking even once. Spinners Jadeja (1-53) and Pathan (1-66) were relatively good.
Two back to back hundred AB de Villiers named played of the match, while Sachin Tendulkar, for Gwalior innings, for its "impact" is named the Man of the Series by the commentary team. Tendulkar is not there, Dhoni receives the award on Tendulkar's behalf.
