India Fined for Slow Over-rate in 1st ODI

Hambantota: Indian captain Mahendra Singh Doni was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while his teammates were docked 10 per cent of their earnings for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first ODI against Sri Lanka.

The India side was ruled to be an over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration. Match referee Chris Broad imposed a 20 per cent fine on Dhoni while each of his player received 10-per-cent-fines.

"The offence is contrary to Article 2.5.1 of the code which relates to minor over-rate offences. The finding and penalty were imposed following a full disciplinary hearing," the statement said.

India won the first match by 21 runs on Saturday night.
