Townsville: Harmeet Singh and Sandeep Sharma showed the courage to get India over the line and they are through to Semi Final. The players shake hands. Another close game and India win by 1 wicket. This is third close game between India and Pakistan in 2 months.
The other Quarter Final between New Zealand and West Indies is a thriller. New Zealand win on the final delivery, they required 4 runs of the last delivery. So India take on New Zealand in the second Semi Final on August 23.
Pakistan elected to bat and were shot out for a paltry 136 in just 45.1 overs, recovering from 62-6 to more than double their total, thanks to Babar Azam (50), Umar Waheed (27) and Ehsaan Adil (35).
India began the chase in a manner most unforgettable, losing the openers Prashant Chopra and Unmukt Chand cheaply. Baba Aparajith (51) and Vijay Zol (36) steadied the ship with a 66-run stand for the third wicket.
But India kept losing regular wickets, losing four, including the well-set Aparajiith, for just seven runs between the 37th and 41st over, descending from 120-6 to 127-9.
India needed 10 to win at that stage, with the last pair of Harmeet Singh (13, 34b) and Sandeep Sharma (2, 22b) in the middle.
Although Pakistan vied valiantly to break the last pair, the batsmen battled hard for seven overs to take India over the line, the victory arriving when Harmeet swung left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz over square leg for the winning brace.
Earlier, Sandeep and Ravikant Singh took three wickets each to bowl out Pakistan for 136 runs in 45.1 overs.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam top scored for his side with a knock of 50 runs.
