Indore: Tanmay Srivastava made the most of his good fortune here on Monday. The left-hander watched his teammates from the sidelines in the first two matches but an injury to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha meant the UP youngster got a very good opportunity to impress in the Challenger Trophy final.
Having been dropped first ball by wicketkeeper Naman Ojha, Srivastava (103; 103b, 9x4, 1x6) made India Green suffer, scoring his second hundred in the tournament. After his knock, India Blue bowlers did their job well to guide the team to a thumping 140-run title victory.
For the third year in a row, the CT final turned out be a one-sided affair. After Yuvraj Singh won his third toss in a row and batted first, India Blue put up a decent batting display to score 287/7 before dismissing India Green for just 147 runs in 36.4 overs here at the Holkar stadium.
To chase 288, India Green needed somebody to play a Srivastava-like innings, but none of the batsmen were up to the task. Their top order failed to fire yet again. After a bright start, Naman Ojha, Aniruddha Srikkanth and Rohit Sharma were dismissed within a space of 11 balls as the team sank from 45/0 to 45/3. They never recovered after that and kept losing wickets.
Earlier, Srivastava added 67 with Shikhar Dhawan 44 (51b, 6x4, 1x6) to provide India Blue a solid start.
