Cuttack: India Blue, favourites to lift the NKP Salve Trophy here, did just about enough on the opening day of the Challenger Series here on Thursday, taming India Reds by 49 runs to set their campaign rolling.
Winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh couldn't quite fire but two of his other big guns did and the 235 for 9 the Blues put up in their 50 overs proved pretty adequate. It was a total that would have been oozing vulnerability on most wickets but on the slow-and-low one at the Barabati Stadium it had the looks of a daunting one.
As the Reds folder up for 186 under the lights. M Vijay's 89 and Manoj Tiwari's unbeaten 45 the only innings of substance for them, they only helped buttress that view.
