Dambulla: India on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 beat Sri
Lanka by three wickets on their home turf in outgoing One day series.
It was superb bowling by Zaheer Khan (4/21) and Praveen Kumar (3/34), Sri Lanka were bowled out for 142 (in 38.3) in the second one-day international. India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had elected to field after winning the toss against Sri Lanka in the second one-day international here on Wednesday.
India overhauled Sri Lanka, who were at 142-10 with 143 for 7 even with 10.2 overs to spare. Captain inning by MS Dhoni and S Badrinath’s successful partnership became the winning mantra for the Indian side. At lunch India 17 for two in 5 overs
One stage India loss 5 wickets on just 75 runs, but debutant Badrinath and Dhoni lead in front. When Dhoni bowled by Dilhara, India need just 7 runs to win.

- After four successive losses to Sri Lanka between July 18, 2004 at Dambulla, India recorded their first win against Sri Lanka at Dambulla. Overall India's their third win in Dambulla
- Zaheer won fifth times Man of the Match awards in One Day. It was the second MOM against Sri Lanka. 4-21 is his third best in ODIs, next only to his 5-42 against Sri Lanka at Goa in 2007 and 4-19 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2003.
- 15 years taken by India to register their first One day win against Sri Lanka in a bilateral series in Sri Lanka. Their last win was by one run at RPS Colombo on July 25, 1993.
- 25 wickets claimed by Ajantha Mendis in his first ten ODIs, the second best tally by anyone after 10 ODIs. West Indies Ottis Gibson had bagged 28 wickets in his first 10 ODI.
