Gwalior: Sachin Tendulkar's record double ton helped India beat South Africa by 153 runs in the second ODI and seal the three-match series 2-0. AB de Villiers' valiant effort of 114* off 101 balls.
India register a comprehensive victory over South Africa beating them by 153 runs to clinch the 3-ODI series 2-0 with a game to play.
Chasing 402, the Proteas were bowled out for 248 in 42.5 overs. The visitors were totally outplayed in all the departments of the game by India, who amazed a total in access of 400 for the third time in ODIs, the only team to do so thrice.
The Proteas over-attacked right from the start of their chase and lost wickets in the process. The dew affected the Indian bowling and conditions were brilliant for batting which de Villiers (114*) proved with his unbeaten hundred.
Amla (34) got off to a fine start but did not take it further while Parnell (18) hung around with de Villiers, adding 77 runs for the 8th wicket but may be just helped him reach closer to his ton. As far as the Indian bowling is concerned, Sreesanth (3-49) ended with maximum wickets but the spinners, Jadeja (2-41) and Yusuf (2-37) bowled quite well.
It was a superb win, scripted beautifully by that unbeaten 200-run knock by Sachin Tendulkar. Undoubtedly, he was the Man of the Match for his brilliant double century, the first by any player in the history of ODI cricket.
Earlier, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the Master himself, helps India reach 401 for 3 in 50 overs after becoming the first batsman to score a double century in ODIs.
It was a flawless knock by the Master Blaster, ending on an unbeaten 200 off just 147 balls which included 25 boundaries and 3 sixes. Overshadowed by that great knock were the other Indian batsmen.
Sehwag (9) though missed out, Karthik (79) played quite well to add a staggering 194 runs for the second wicket along with Tendulkar. The batsmen coming in next, had to just hit their way out and get as many as runs possible.
Yusuf Pathan (36) played a fine cameo and so did the Indian skipper. MS Dhoni went on to make an unbeaten 68 off just 35 balls which included 7 fours and 4 huge sixes. As far as the Proteas are concerned, their bowlers were just toyed around and were hit all round the park by the Indian batsmen. Parnell (2-95) picked up two wickets going for plenty while van der Merwe (1-62) was the only one to have some respectable figures.
In all, they were smashed for 41 fours and 12 big sixes - quite a substantial record in itself. 400 is not a total the Proteas will be buoyed by. They have reached it in the past but it is just a matter of doing it on the day.
