Melbourne: Mike Hussey will replace Shaun Marsh, who is yet to recover from a back injury, in the two Twenty20 games against New Zealand later this week, Cricket Australia said here today.
CA's National Selection Panel said Hussey will replace Marsh in the 15-man squad to take on New Zealand in the 20-20 games on Friday and Saturday that mark the start of Australia's tour of New Zealand.
"Shaun Marsh injured his back during the warm-up for the third ODI against the West Indies in Sydney and while he continues to improve there are still some signs of the injury," Australian physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"He will continue to be monitored before a decision is made on his availability for the one-day component of the tour to New Zealand," he added.
NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said Hussey's splendid form made him an automatic choice to fill in the void.
"Mike Hussey has shown excellent form throughout this Australian summer, is well equipped for T20 cricket and thoroughly deserves this opportunity to push for selection in the ICC World Twenty20 to be held in the West Indies during May this year," Hilditch said.
