Wellington: Australia claimed an emphatic 10-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final over before lunch on day five of the first Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
After dismissing New Zealand after an hour of play in the morning, Australia needed just 106 runs to win with 85 overs in hand - and did so in just 91 minutes.
Phil Hughes took matters into his own hands and blasted 86 not out - after reaching his half-century in 43 balls - including seven fours and one six.
Simon Katich supported him well down the other end with his gentle knock of 18.
After ending Brendon McCullum's brilliant century earlier, Australia made quick work of New Zealand's tail-order to end the home side's second innings on 407.

His inspirational run came to an end three overs late however when he edged a catch to Michael Clarke in the slips off Ryan Harris for 104.
Tim Southee then came to the crease and threw away his wicket for a duck on the second ball he faced when he thrashed wildly at a delivery from Harris that caught the edge of the bat and sailed through to Clarke, who claimed his second catch in as many overs.
Harris claimed his third Kiwi scalp of the morning in three overs when he dismissed Brent Arnel (three) lbw before Mitchell Johnson made quick work of Chris Martin (one).
Daryl Tuffey deserved some merit for adding some credibility to the New Zealand score with his unbeaten knock of 47.
Debutant Harris was the best of the Australian bowlers with figures of 4-107 off his 24 overs while Nathan Hauritz's marathon bowling effort handed him three wickets for 119 runs.
McCullum, along with Tim McIntosh (83) and New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori (77), attempted to save the home side from a devastating defeat after it was forced to follow-on after a poor first-innings total of 157.
Australian seamer Doug Bollinger was the chief destroyer in New Zealand's demise, taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings before claiming two more in the second.
