Mark Gillespie achieved his best Test bowling figures of six-113 before South Africa declared its first innings at 474-9 Sunday, shortly after tea.
After Alviro Petersen had made his highest Test score of 156 to lead South Africa to 362-3 at lunch, Gillespie led a small Kiwi fight back which saw six wickets fall for 112 runs.
The 32-year-old paceman took five for 59 when recalled to the New Zealand team after four years for the second Test at Hamilton. But he surpassed those figures on Sunday with his third bag of five wickets or more in a Test. Gillespie also took five wickets in his Test debut against South Africa in 2007.
