Brisbane: A clinical show by the pacers helped Australia thrash India by a massive margin of 110 runs in the seventh ODI of the tri-series at Brisbane on Sunday.
Ben Hilfenhaus (5/33) and Brett Lee (3/49) punctured the much cherished Indian batting line up as the visitors were bundled out for just 178, while chasing a stiff 289.
Indian spectators once again witnessed a meek surrender by the batsmen on a batting friendly track of the Gabba. Barring skipper MS Dhoni, no other batsmen showed resistance to the Australian pace storm.
India's run chase got off to a bad start as Brett Lee had Gautam Gambhir caught behind by Matthew Wade in the second over.
Ben Hilfenhaus then got Sachin Tendulkar caught by Xavier Doherty at third man to give India the second blow in the fifth over.
Rohit Sharma failed to get off the mark and became second victim of Lee's pace.
India lost their fourth wicket when Ben Hilfenhaus had Virat Kohli caught by David Hussey at first slip.
Christian got rid of Suresh raina after his 46-run stand with Dhoni.
Mitchell Starc removed Ravindra Jadeja (18) to give India sixth blow at the score of just 114.
Jadeja was caught by Peter Forrest after his brief struggle with skipper MS Dhoni.
Australian pacer Ben Hilfenhaus ended MS Dhoni's challenge as the Indian skipper became the seventh batsmen to return back to pavilion after scoring a fighting 56.
Dhoni was caught by Christian after his brave effort during India's poor batting collapse.
Earlier, fine half-centuries by Michael Hussey and Peter Forrest and a superb 18-ball 30 by Daniel Christian powered Australia to 288/5.
Christian and David Hussey put up 65 runs off just 36 balls as Australia scored over 100 runs in the last ten overs.
Irfan Pathan dismissed Michael Hussey and Peter Forrest in one over to rattle Australia.
Pathan took his third wicket when he had Forrest (52) caught by Virat Kohli at deep mid-wicket.
Pathan took his second wicket when he had Michael Hussey caught by Suresh Raina at deep mid-wicket.
Hussey hit 6 fours in his 52-ball 59 and with Peter Forrest put up a 100-run stand off 92 balls for the fourth wicket to revive Australia.
Hussey made most of an umpire goof-up and two dropped chances and reached his 36th ODI fifty off 45 balls.
Australia lost their third wicket when part-time bowler Rohit Sharma took a simple return catch to dismiss Matthew Wade.
What happened in the next over was nothing but comedy of errors. Suresh Raina bowled a fullish delivery outside off that nipped away after landing. Michael Hussey missed his drive and MS Dhoni whipped off the bails in a flash. The players appealed for a stumping and the umpire went upstairs.
The replays showed that Hussey's foot was marginally behind the line. Bruce Oxenford, the third umpire declared Hussey out who started to walk back to the pavillion. But then umpire Billy Bowden ran to inform Hussey that Oxenford pressed the wrong button and it was not out. A smiling Hussey came back as Dhoni had an animated conversation with the umpires.
Ricky Ponting's poor form continued as Zaheer Khan had the stand-in Australian captain caught by Irfan Pathan at deep mid-wicket.
Irfan Pathan gave India the first breakthrough when he had David Warner caught by Sachin Tendulkar at mid-wicket.
Warner played across the line to a fullish delivery on middle and flicked it aerially straight to Tendulkar at mid-wicket.
Openers Warner and Matthew Wade brought up the Australian fifty in the tenth over.
