Melbourne: Pakistan have been bowled out for 251 and Australia win the Boxing day Test by 170 runs. The home team leads the series 1-0.
Credit must be given to Australian captain Ricky Ponting for his bold and timely move to declare their innings at 454 for 5 which infused life in the game. Shane Watson was outstanding in the game scoring 93 and an unbeaten 120 in the second innings.
Mitchell Johnson was absolutely brilliant with the ball, taking three wickets each innings. Today morning he struck twice in the firsrt over of the day to end all hopes of an historic Pakistan victory. Nathan Hauritz picked up his maiden five wicket haul, which hastened the slide.
For Pakistan Mohammad Yousuf hit a fighting 61 but clearly missed the support from the middle order. Ricky Ponting is now Australia's most successful Test captain with 42 Test wins from 65 matches. Former skipper Steve Waugh had 41 wins from 57 Tests.
Shane Watson has been named the Man of the Match. He ended Australia's summer of century drought with his maiden century after missing out on one in the first innings by just 7-runs. The opener rode his luck after being dropped on 99 by Rauf but he truly deserved his century.
