NZ v Bangladesh, Only Test, 2nd day, Hamilton

Guptill-McCullum Misses Double Ton, But NZ on Top

Hamilton: At stumps on the second day of the only Test match Bangladesh were 87/1, when bad light stopped play.

The visitors started off the day with the hope of restricting the Kiwis to a reasonable score, but the hosts piled up a huge first innings total, declaring on 553/7, with brilliant batting from Martin Guptill (189) who slammed his maiden Test century and Brendon McCullum (185) scoring the 4th ton in his 50th Test. They both added 339 runs for the 6th wicket.

Rubel Hossain (5-166) was the stand-out performer with the ball, taking his maiden 5-wicket Test haul.

Replying to the mammoth Kiwi score, Tamim Iqbal (56*) and Imrul Kayes (28) got off to a briiliant start, thrashing the New Zealand bowlers all over the park, adding 79 for the 1st wicket.

Skipper Daniel Vettori then got the breakthrough, getting Kayes caught by Taylor at slip, in his very first over. After that, rain and bad light forced the umpires to take the players off the field and in the end, they decided to call it a day.
